What will it take to complete the Great Commission, Jesus command to “Go, make disciples of all nations.” Matt. 28:19
Every YWAM Student Centre participant and every volunteer will engage the following values through formal and informal Bible Studies, learning activities, and discussions, including the following major topics from 2 Peter 1:4-8.
The YWAM staff members of the Student Centre are individually part of other YWAM and partner ministries on five continents. We collaborate on strategic projects. We speak multiple languages. And we are passionate about helping university students know God and make Him known in their career choices and spheres of influence.
The Student Centre was birthed in prayer by the Word of the Lord, over many years with many streams of encouragement, including a personal exhortation to start the Centre from YWAM’s founder, Loren Cunningham.
Originally named the UofN Student Mobilization Centre, we were commissioned by the Board of Regents of the University of the Nations, YWAM’s global university, in September 1997 in Seoul, South Korea. The name, UofN Student Mobilization Centre of Youth With A Mission, was registered with the IRS and in the Commonwealth of Virginia in January 1998. We are registered to operate in the State of New Jersey since 2013.
YWAM Student Centre is no longer a Centre of the U of N, however, we are still a transnational networking ministry of Youth With A Mission.
Converge is an important name within YWAM and in world missions. Converge is about bringing things together.
local with global engagement,
theological with practical training,
online with in-person delivery of content,
mentoring with independent learning,
academics with service,
short-term with long-term,
spiritual with natural,
sacred with secular, and
careers with callings.
Converge is also a core program of YWAM Student Centre. Converge is a customizable missional internship program for university students and young adults. Converge allows students to collaborate in designing their serving/learning project based on their skill set and individual calling.
We have coordinated international internships for over three decades. The Centre has equipped students from over 100 universities in nine countries to integrate their studies with service projects worldwide. For decades, students gathered for ten-day pre-service orientations in El Salvador, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, and eight States in the USA. They served in over 40 countries on more than seventy- five project teams.
Launched in 2013, Converge students are now offered the pre-departure orientation through our online Converge Course. Why did we shift to an online course?
The majority Church today, including the future majority of missionaries, life in the Global
South. Most of the energy and passion for world missions is in Latin America, Sub-Sahara Africa, and part of Asia. The majority of students in those regions do not have the financial resources necessary to travel to a location for a ten-day orientation before their internship. To further assist students from the Global South, we are receiving designated donations to scholarship them for internship. If you are interested in helping students who represent the future of world missions, I encourage you to make a contribution. Thank you!
