Start a Missional Campus Group

Step 1: Begin with a Missional Table

The first step to make a difference is how we think about it. With vision and a unified team effort, you can change your campus culture, starting at a table.

Believe it or not, your campus is a mission field. If you are a Christ-follower, you are called as a missionary to your campus.

Christian student groups may exist on campus, however more missional vision and practice is needed. Jesus did not sit on a throne; he sat at tables.

Here’s how to start: Ask a few people to join you. Then share meals with people who are confused, rejected, and desperate.

We offer a free guide to start your own Missional Table, with weekly plans and menus that follow 2000 years of the advance of God’s kingdom.

“I think it is a very powerful message and should be shared with his many people as possible. I have certainly passed it on. The whole point of eating as part of divine fellowship is crucial to who we are as human beings.” - David Aikman

Step 2: Multiply with a Core Team

After the 8-week Missional Table meals are finished, share the vision with one or two people. Ask them to join your core team. Make sure everyone understands and believes the gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-8).

You can begin by praying together, asking God what breaks His heart and what would give Him the most pleasure on campus. What you hear together is your mission on campus. Of course, the core team members can start their own Missional Table with their own friends and classmates.

As you continue to build relationships, consider leading a DISCIPLE Course, a CallingQuest Weekend Intensive, an International Team Outreach, or a Converge Missional Internship.

Your small steps of obedience to Jesus will help build relationships in Christ (1 John 4:7-8). Stay connected to Jesus and each other (1 John 15:5). Encourage each other (1 Thes. 5:11). And invite members of a local church community to join your Campus Missions Group (Eph. 4:3). Reach out to us if you want to talk it through.

Learn together about God’s purpose for the university (Eph. 3:10) and for every kind of faithful work (Eph. 2:10). Understand together Christ’s mission to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. (Hab. 2:14). Learn more here.

Step 3: Pray Weekly for the Campus

To missionally engage the campus with the Good News of Jesus, you need to first spend time listening to Him.

If you have already completed Steps 1 & 2, you should have learned how to pray and listen together by following Joy Dawson’s Principles for Effective Intercession.

To bring the hope of Christ to every student on your campus, this is probably the most important thing the Campus Missions group can do together.
